Flint Hills Stockyards sold 1,501 head Tuesday, with a large run of yearling cattle and strong demand throughout the feeder cattle sale. The offering was heavily concentrated in 8- and 9-weight steers, with more than 1,000 head selling in those two weight classes. A standout string of 118 black and black-baldy steers averaging 866 pounds brought $325.00/cwt, while 61 black steers averaging 849 pounds sold for $324.50 and 67 black and red steers averaging 872 pounds brought $319.50. The largest string of the day was 288 black and black-baldy steers averaging 920 pounds at $322.00. Heifer demand was steady, highlighted by 70 black and Charolais-cross heifers averaging 794 pounds at $298.25 and 64 black heifers averaging 864 pounds at $296.85.
